I thought my day couldn’t get any better on the Friday of BritMums Live after I ordered a bottle of prosecco in All Bar One and it was only £15. In London! But then a girl at the bar told me I looked 30! I’m 39. She was clearly drunk. My cup was floweth-ing over. But then I won a Brilliance in Blogging award too! Happy doesn’t cover it. I’m still walking on air and want to say a huge thanks for all your support for Wry Mummy.
Those who were at the awards ceremony will know that I was a little tearful and shocked as I went to collect my award. I didn’t think I stood a chance in such a strong category, against Suzanne (3 Children and It), Aby (You Baby Me Mummy), John (DadBlogUK) and Jess (Mrs Helicopter Writes). I was delighted to meet John and Jess and catch up with Aby, while I missed Suzanne who sadly couldn’t make it.
All I have ever wanted from my blog is for people to enjoy my posts as much as I enjoy writing them. So to receive an award implying that a few people do indeed find them tittersome just blew me away.
Thank you to everyone who has read and enjoyed my blog, it means the world to me. I’m so touched by all the kind words I have received from so many lovely friends and readers before the awards and since the result was announced. Thank you so much for your continuing support.
A special mention to my dear friend and fellow blogger, who inspired me to start Wry Mummy: Jude. Her blog Make Me An Earth Mother is a fantastic mix of humour and thought-provoking posts and I urge you to check it out.
Big thanks to my lovely prosecco partners Katie (Hurrah For Gin), Elfa (Californian Mum in London), Emma (Brummy Mummy Of 2), and Steph (Don’t Buy Her Flowers). I was also delighted to finally meet one of my favourite bloggers, Tim, who is just as warm and funny in real life as on his blog, Slouching Towards Thatcham. I couldn’t attend the Saturday as I had a wedding, which was a shame as I didn’t get the chance to meet / see many of the lovely bloggers I’d hoped to see. I hope I catch up with you in real life soon!
I was very excited to receive my award from the lovely Carol Smillie, who looked stunning and was very gentle with me as I came over a bit Gwynnie. I was gutted to miss her DiaryDolls presentation.
A huge thanks to BritMums for hosting such a fantastic event. I was honoured to shake hands and (I think) drunkenly hug founders Susanna Scott and Jennifer Howze, and I’m grateful to Marianne (of Mari’s World and editor of BritMums) for guiding us all through the awards process. Thanks of course to the the lovely category judge, Katy Hill (katyhillsblog)
Thanks to my husband for his loving, if somewhat baffled, support. Oh yes, and to my kids for giving me so much to write about. Most of all, thank you to my dear mother, who brought us up in a house full of laughter and mirth, and whose laugh is the one I value most. I am grateful to all my family’s support, but I dedicate my award to her: the original Wry Mummy.
This is not a sponsored post, by DairyDolls, nor, sadly, prosecco manufacturers of the world.

Thanks Sian, and thank for supporting me since I started up – by reading me and giving me technical help! Ha ha, yes that disclaimer was a big hint to the vineyards of Italy! xx
So delighted for you Jess! You are such a talented writer and I love visiting your blog (it’s one of my husband’s favourites too!) I’m so happy to see you getting the recognition you deserve. The sky’s the limit now lovely! 🙂 xxx
Hang on, who is this ‘warm and funny’ chap of whom you speak? (‘Sweaty and goofy’, I’d have understood.) And why is he using both my name *and* my blog name? I’ll kill ‘im, the cheeky little sod. 🙂
Oh, Jess, I’m so glad we had a chance to finally meet, albeit not for anywhere near long enough. I was really hoping some of your effortless humour would rub off on me. And now you hopefully know that it is more than just *a few* people who love your wry slant on the world. Mine is a much happier place with you in it – I have lost count of the number of mornings I have been sat at my desk with my start-of-the-day coffee and snorted with laughter at one of your posts. (I really must wipe the coffee stains off my screen …)

A very well-deserved win. Shame I didn’t get to say more than a fleeting ‘hello’ – there are so many women and so little time! Great to see you, though.

Beautiful post! And a VERY well deserved awared! Credit where it’s due. Although in that second picture it looks like you’ve had too much prossecco as you can’t actually see the award so it looks like you’re doing a giant “I crush your head”! Love that! xx
